The heavy beamed ceilings are from ancient ship’s timbers, the treenails and fastenings still showing. There are panelled walls and flag-stone floors. The Bar and Restaurant are separated by a huge log fire open to both sides, complete with seat and a massive iron fireback bearing the arms of Charles 1st. If you look up the wide chimney you will see the ironwork for smoking bacon and other meats, also an escape way for smugglers leading to a room above.
It is said that a tunnel runs under the pub to the waterfront and was the route used by many a smuggler.
The seat in the bar corner is known as “Parsons Corner”, the seat of a former vicar, Rev. Arthur Pavey, who was as popular in the inn as in his church.
The window featured in the bar is one of the oldest existing windows and is registered with English Heritage.

As well as a covered heated smoking area to the side of the pub, there is a heated Mediterranean style garden with another covered smoking area for those prefer to eat and drink Al fresco
Our Bar and Restaurant are full of Olde-worlde Charm and antiquity. The bar area remains a traditional English Pub - a meeting place for locals and visitors alike.
